The Nature Of Fort Myers History

When examining how the Fort Myers became to exist, it basically, translates to the time of America Civil War. Based on the bank of Caloosahtchee River, Fort Myers History is noted as one of the ancient sites conquered by the Union forces for playing tactical war just after being distracted by emergence of hurricane in Ft. Dulany in 1841. The earlier dwellers of this place were Calusa people whereas during the time when they were invaded, they existed with the people of Seminole.

A quick view on the reasons as to why the military opt for this region is evident from the sketch that perceive this place as a point with high vicinity in that they could easily recognize the coming of an enemy from far. In relation to the first two groups, they love the place because it offers a view to both East Atlantic Ocean and Florida Keys which they could move to in case of an attack. These people used creek to aid them from escaping the enemy.

After the capture of Fort Myers, the originators escape and majority vanished while the minority who remained preferred to endure the wrath of hard life that awaits them in the hand of the soldiers but funnily enough the opposite happened, the union became that of brother and sister.

Other important dignitaries who controlled the military such as Manual A. Gonzales arrived in the Fort of Myers to check if indeed they could find a place to stay thereafter, started a barter trade that would lead to an exchange of tobacco, beads and gunpowder for otter, bobcat, deer and gator hides. The whole scenario happened peacefully and the trade would suddenly appear lucrative to other potential visitors.

Once the war was complete, people started gathering and crossing into the zones of Myers in order to galvanize the limited building materials in the wake of 1864 to 1875. Thereafter, over to 19th Century, big buildings and hotel were on the increase a good example is Keystone that was built across the foot of Park Street. As years passes by close to 1885, the statistics would indicate that the population figures had so far reached 349. The rich merchant could begin to flourish in searching for better pasture and later decides to settle in conjunction with the whole of family members a good situation was like that of Thomas A. Edison.

Come 1884, the Ft. Myers was included in Lee County a new state that could then bring with it an establishment of second newspaper termed as Tropic News. Citrus industry followed in place into the south.

During the 20th Century would come to happen was the building of the region. There was a major increase the number of buildings and residential estate that still exist up to date. What stimulated the growth was the creation of roads and railway that made movements so easier to other cities.

Major achievement occurred on the 1920 to 1927 as all sorts of growth in the area could emerge to subdue every other periods. Everywhere was commerce and since 1940, it has been that way up to date.
