Importance Of Marine Transport In The Transport Industry

By Dorothy Nelson

One primary daily activity of people is transportation. Among many others, marine transport is one significant means that is used in transporting bulky goods. However, it is considered as the best means of carrying bulky goods between different coastal areas in the world. This form of marine transport is fundamental due to some reasons are shown below.

Transportation is safer regarding the security of goods. Goods need to be protected, from hazards such as theft, spillage or destruction. Sea transportation has provided convenience to the people without accidents as compared to other means of transport like trucks and trains; ships are much safe due to the rare occurrence of accidents. Sometimes the high lakes ships may run aground, but serious accidents, as well as cargo spills, are rare

Shipping produces low noise pollution. Noise pollution is an issue that disturbs the environment. Ships have low rumble engines that give them the advantage of making less noise as they move over the water. They are however more silent as compared to the trucks and trains that produce roar sounds as they transport the goods. Ships, therefore, are considered to be more reliable than the other carrying means.

Marine transportation is a cheap mode of transport. Different transportation machines use materials during their construction and maintenance. The materials used to construct ships are less expensive as compared to the ones used to build trucks and trains. Thus making its support cheaper and more manageable compared to other modes of transport. This low cost of maintenance makes the transportation more friendly and efficient during shipping.

sea transportation has made a trade in distant lands to be comfortable. Transportation of heavy goods in long distances has made it possible for traders to quickly move with their products in longer intervals to carry out the trade. Therefore, has promoted international exchange of goods among traders that live in distant coastal areas and different continents too.

It promotes international trade . Trade in different continents, and various coastal areas have been made possible through water transport. It is useful for transporting large quantities of non-perishable goods over long distances, and different continents has played a major role in international trade. Traders from all over the world have found it easier to trade efficiently by using water transportation as a means of transport hence promoting global business. Traders can quickly and efficiently meet to carry out their trading activities.

Transportation is more tolerant as compared to trucks and trains. Rigid nature of traveling conditions makes transport difficult sometimes. However, marine traffic can be easily altered in case of any change of circumstances, e. G., moving from one area to another that may be as a result of weather conditions. That is made possible due to its flexible nature of the sea in that direction can be changed easily without difficulties. Therefore, makes marine transportation more tolerant.

It has the most significant carrying capacity that provides adequate space for carrying the goods. Marine transportation has a vast area where products of large quantities can be taken. This is due to the ample space available in the sea hence giving room for construction of large ships that will accommodate the required goods. Goods are then carried in large quantities along the distant coastal areas
