For a truly amazing vacation experience, a lot of people prefer the majesty of natural wonders and historical locations. Both of these wonderful options are plentiful in South America and there are a number of traveling deals that can combine multiple stops for a bigger adventure. Machu Picchu Iguazu Falls tours are very popular and are said to be truly phenomenal.

Nestled high above the Urabamba Valley in Peru, nearly 8,000 feet above sea level, lies the ruins of a centuries old Incan city. The complex was built in the 15th century but remained unknown to the outside would until 1911. It is perhaps the most well known icon of this once great civilization, and has become an incredibly popular tourist destination.

Hidden and untouched by the Spanish invaders and protected by the UNESCO and the Peruvian Historical Society, the site is relatively intact and culturally significant. Preservation and reconstructive projects have been done on most of the buildings so that visitors are given an accurate idea of how it originally appeared. The number of people permitted onto the grounds and the famous trail leading to it, is strictly regulated to limit potential damages.

The site is most well known for its main structures, the Inti Watana, the Room of the Three Windows and the Temple of the Sun. The buildings are separated by function, agricultural, urban or religious, and placed in a way to best utilize the natural layout of the land. From the crest, the view is awe inspiring and the complex blends seamlessly with the environment.

After soaking in all the beauty of this ancient city, the focus moves to the wonder that is situated at the joining of Argentina and Brazil. Set amid a canopy of lush jungle greenery lies what has been deemed one of the most dramatic scenes in all of South America. More than two hundred and fifty individual waterfalls of varied heights and widths make up one undeniably breathtaking sight.

This beautiful formation is not only taller than the famous cascades at Niagara, but they are twice as wide. Argentina is host to the majority of these waterfalls, which create a spectacular scene that is best viewed from the Brazilian side. As tons of water comes crashing over the cliffs into the river below, it creates fantastic mists that rise up into the jungle setting.

This amazing phenomena can be viewed in a variety of ways. Those who want to move at their own pace may find the paved paths to be pleasant, where some might prefer to travel by train from one overlook to another. However, to become fully immersed in the experience, visitors can take a boat ride out into the river and find out what it is like behind the curtain of falling water.

A vacation that includes visits to both the ruins of an ancient civilization and an incredibly majestic span of waterfalls is something one will not soon forget. The beauty of nature and the unique glimpse into the past are well worth the trip to South America. Travel needs and accommodations will be arranged and there will be ample opportunities to experience the unique styles that are the Peruvian, Argentine and Brazilian cultures.
