Hong Kong Sights, China

By Jonny Blair

Backpacking in China can also take you to Hong Kong. This colossal place has so many sights it will keep you occupied for hours and days. You can do it on a budget too and there is a huge history here. From cultural, religious and natural history up to the present day, this is a great city.

Let's have a look at some of the top sights in Hong Kong:

The skyline in Hong Kong is epic. It's widely regarded as the number one skyline on the planet, eclipsing even New York and Singapore. You'll want to check out an awesome view of Hong Kong and the best places to do that are the Peak, Tsim Sha Tsui and Kowloon waterfront. Amazing city!

Get yourself over to Lantau Island when you are touring Hong Kong as here sits the big Buddha. This is a massive statue worth checking out. You can even do it on a tight budget by walking up to it instead of taking the cable car. It does get very busy at times and offers tremendous views over the skyline and outlying islands of Hong Kong.

For a taste of nature in the bustling city, head over to Nan Lian Garden. This location is often on top ten lists of things to see in Hong Kong. It has also been called the city's most beautiful spot. At three and a half hectares, the garden is inspired by the Jianshouju Garden found in Shanxi Province. Nan Lian has been open to the public since 2006.

The Hong Kong Park is an attraction in the middle of the city that offers multiple activities and sights. Walk through the aviary to see beautiful birds and butterflies or take a trip to the zoo. There is a Tai Chi garden for a moment of peace and quiet and also a tea ware museum and view tower. The man made waterfall and lake are beautiful, with fish and turtles to see.

In terms of hiking and scenic walks, Hong Kong also offers a lot in this regard. One of the best hiking trails is known as the dragon's back. This is on Hong Kong island. It tests the muscles and also offers scintillating views over the splendid city and countryside and further out to sea.

I totally recommend going backpacking or travelling in Hong Kong!
