There is nothing like an adventure holiday to get the adrenalin pumping and the muscles working. It's great for the soul too, since you do things you never thought possible and you get to have experiences that you'll never forget. Most of these adventures allow you to spend some time in nature as well. If you're looking for an easy way to have the adventure of a lifetime, jungle tours in Thailand should definitely be on your list.

Thailand is located in Southeast Asia and is renowned for its natural beauty. The people here are generally very friendly, which has earned the country the nickname 'The Land of Smiles'. It's a country of contrasts, with bustling, modern cities but also remote villages where life is lived like it has been for hundreds of years.

Because it has so much to offer, many people view Thailand as one of the world's top tourist destinations. There really is something for everyone, from shopping in Bangkok to scuba diving around the islands in the southwest. You can enjoy food full of flavor or sip on coconut juice under a palm tree on the beach. There are plenty of spa resorts too if you need some pampering.

A great way to escape the tourist crowds and the choking pollution of Bangkok is to head for the wilderness. The country has more than a hundred national parks to protect its wildlife, from marine creatures in the coastal parks to elephants, deer and tigers in the more inland parks. Many of the protected areas are covered in dense jungle with mountains, valleys, waterfalls and lakes or rivers to explore.

There are different ways to explore the Thai jungles. You can take a short day hike near your beach resort, for instance. Otherwise, consider a trek of several days in the more remote mountainous regions and visit traditional villages. If you don't feel like making your way on foot in the heat, you can't go wrong with a tour on the back of an elephant.

Venturing into the jungle does pose some risks, so it's good to take some simple precautions for your own safety and comfort. Wear good shoes that will protect you from snake bites or scorpion stings and cover your arms and legs in loose, light-weight clothing. You'll need a good insect repellent too. A good supply of drinking water is essential in the tropical heat. It's advisable too to use the services of a guide with a good reputation, especially in regions where drug traffickers operate.

Thailand is a good year-round destination with a hot and humid, tropical climate. For trips into the wilderness, the best time to go is from November to February. From March to June it's almost unbearably hot and you'd rather want to be on the beach, while July to October is monsoon season. If you come during the warmer months, you'll find that it's cooler high up in the mountains.

Thailand has an excellent tourism infrastructure and there are plenty of tour operators who can arrange a trip into the jungle for you. You can find them online or in most tourist centers within the country. Some resorts will be able to help you as well.
